VOLUNTEER & INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Since the pandemic, many of NAMI Delaware’s staff work hybrid. Depending on tasks assigned, interns and volunteers may also be hybrid or remote. We are working to reopen our office though, and certain tasks – such as being a volunteer HelpLine Operator – can only be performed onsite at the Wilmington office location.

All of our internships are non-clinical. We are not able to accept internships that require a supervisor with a Master’s level degree or higher.

INTERN/VOLUNTEER ROLES

Please note: These are not total requirements but typical tasks given to our interns based on skill set and interest level. Tasks may vary depending on timeframe and the individual intern/volunteer.

As an intern or volunteer with NAMI Delaware’s Education and Support Program, you are committed to educating the local community about mental health and suicide prevention. As many of our interns are undergraduate students, there is a focus on youth/young adult engagement – however this can be adjusted if there is a particular community or topic for outreach that is of interest.

  • Prepare engagement strategies for high schools, middle schools, community centers, and parent meetings across the state.
  • Deliver custom presentations associated with mental health challenges and suicidal thoughts.
  • Develop and update custom presentations tailored to fit that specific institution/organization’s needs.
  • Review current events in the mental health world to keep presentations up to date with statistics.
  • Participate in evidence-based trainings.
  • Staff NAMI events as needed.
  • Attend meetings and webinars on behalf of NAMI Delaware and take notes to bring back to Education and Support team.
  • Assist on other special assignments as needed.
  • Operate the HelpLine phone, listening empathetically and giving appropriate resources with staff member support.
